Hello! My name is Madi.

Welcome to The Little Stem!

I’m a ceramic artist currently based in Pennsylvania.

I’m from Colorado, but have lived in Pennsylvania most of my life. While I have a degree in chemistry, I have always had a passion for art.

My Art Journey:

Since I was a kid, I tried every creative outlet that I could. Of every medium I have dabbled in, I always came back to pottery time and time again. I love the whole process, the life lessons I’ve learned from it, and the meditative state of mind I am in when working in the studio.

I first worked with clay at 6 years old at a school art fair. There was a blind ceramic artist who worked completely by feel alone. I remember learning how to feel the clay rather than just rely on the visual part of it. To say I was hooked would be an understatement!

In high school, I had the opportunity to learn from fantastic educator and artist, known now as Frunzi Ceramics, who was instrumental in building a solid foundation for me to start working on my own.

After graduating from college, I moved to Boston and lived with my aunt for a year. While there, I built my first little home pottery studio in a tiny corner of the basement. Since then, I have moved back to Pennsylvania. Now I have a much larger home studio space, allowing me to grow and explore even more.

Clay is not the only medium I work with. Remember when I said I tried every outlet I could? I still work in all kinds of mediums, whatever drives my creative needs, some of which I may also have available in my shop! You just might find some crocheted items or illustrated prints!

I share most of my art on Instagram if you’re interested in finding more of my creations.

My work in other mediums:

Candle lamp sculpture (college art class)

Crow skull illustration

What do I do outside of art?

In my free time, I love spending time with my cat, Miko and corn snake, Mr. Noodle!

I recently rekindled my love for reading, despite the inconsistency at times. If I’m not creating, I’m likely to be reading, playing a video game (Stardew Valley is the current favorite), spending time outside or time with family and friends.
